The US is a big country. In 2019, 2.8m people died of various causes. When we hear about the number of deaths from Covid-19 – which are of course individually tragic – it is useful to have this context.
There is also the issue of deaths “with Covid-19” vs deaths “from Covid-19″……if you don’t know what this is about, use a search engine.
Michael Levitt, and others, have done excellent work looking at “excess mortality” as a clearer way of looking at the overall impact of Covid-19 and the response to it. I will post more on this as/when I have more time.
